After rediscovering fishing in 2016 and managing to catch 23 species, I have decided to set my sights at adding 27 more species in 2017 for a total of 50 species.
I have a list of 27 potential species in my region, but I will also try to venture out a bit further from my local holes to see what species I can come up with.
I still have many common species to add to my list (i.e. Smallmouth Bass, Common Carp, Northern Pike, Brown Trout, Walleye), but my list also has some hard to catch microspecies (darters and dace).
Below is the 2017 hit list:
.Northern Pike
.Smallmouth Bass
.Walleye
.Brown Trout
.Brook Trout
.Freshwater Drum
.Common Carp
.Bowfin
.Rainbow Darter
.Black Crappie
.Channel Catfish
.White Crappie
.Brook Stickleback
.Fathead Minnow
.Northern Hogsucker
.White Sucker
.Lake Trout
.Golden Shiner
.Rainbow Darter
.Longnose Gar
.Redside Dace
.Finescale Dace
.Northern Redbelly Dace
.Blacknose Dace
.Shorthead Redhorse
.Johnny Darter
.Yellow Bullhead
And hopefully along the way a couple of mystery species will show up.

A rainbow darter caught last year via dip net.
