Target Species: White Sucker
Time Spent Fishing: 45 Minutes
Bait: Worms
Shortly after the ice melts, white suckers run up our local creeks to spawn in healthy numbers. Last year I missed out on their spawning run so I didn't want to miss my chance this year.
After a 15 minutes of walking along my local creek I was able to spot some suckers in shallow rapids. The only challenge that presented itself was since there was a quick melt-off of late winter snow and ice, there was a pretty swift current. After playing around with the amount of split shots on my line I was finally able to achieve a great balance where my worm/hook would travel with the current but wouldn't get caught up in the rocks.
After a couple of casts I caught my first White Sucker. I was absolutely not expecting the fight that it put up.
